Environmental Health Implications of Global Climate Change. Watson, R., J.Patz, D.Gubler, E. Parson, and H. Vincent. 2005. Journal of Environmental Monitoring. 7:834-843. (Journal article)

If you are a big picture thinker, Watson’s article provides a masterful summary of the connections of anthropogenic activities to induced climate change, the likely health impacts of changing climates, the current state of political response, and the benefits of governmental policies aimed at lowering emissions. These researchers also report on the direct health impacts of heat, rises in sea level, and exacerbated air and water-borne harmful agents. They comment on such things as worsening effects of air pollutants and blood-sucking arthropods such as mosquitoes that may be significantly impacted, redistributing diseases to some areas previously unaffected. The article also summarizes economic projections based on failure to respond to climate change and this is contrasted to proactive changes. The information is an eyeful.
